Attorney General Jeff Sessions sent a shot across the bow of the US Cannabis Industry on January 4, 2018, by rescinding an Obama-era policy that paved the way for legalized marijuana to flourish in states across the country.
This move creates new confusion about enforcement and use across the US, including here in Colorado. While much is being said about Session’s big step backward, Governor Hickenlooper was clear about how to keep the Fed’s out of your marijuana business when he spoke with National Public Radios’, Ari Shapiro after the Sessions announcement. “Make sure that you comply with every (marijuana) regulation that we have, and really focus on doing this (growing and selling marijuana) the right way.”
At Cannabis Regulatory Solutions, we pride ourselves in being a cost effective way of doing exactly what the Governor suggests. Let’s face it; this advice is a no-brainer. But in practice, it can be extremely difficult, with hundreds of pages of medical and retail regulations that are constantly changing. For example, the latest revisions, which took effect on January 1, are extensive, affecting all areas of the Colorado Cannabis Industry. It’s no wonder many well-meaning, compliance-minded companies still find themselves in trouble with the MED.
That’s where we come in. Whether you are responding to a compliance issue or bolstering your overall compliance program, we can help.
A great place to start is Responsible Vendor Program Training for your stores and dispensaries and Responsible Cultivator Training for your grow facility staff and/or Compliance Manager. We also pride ourselves in being much more than just a training company. On behalf of our clients we’ve created Compliance Plans, written letters to the MED and to local Newspaper Editors, developed Standard Operating Procedures (SOP’s), and worked closely with our client’s Legal Counsel. We have even developed a line of SOP Flowcharts that can be posted in your facilities to assure compliance with specific SOP requirements.
